According to the maps in the book Indian Paths in the Great Metropolis (1922), the areas of Brooklyn that were historically Native American planting grounds include what are now parts of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill, Bensonhurst and Canarsie. I am currently researching all these areas. My first focus has been on Boerum Hill which is close to where I live, and no longer resembles a corn field. |
